Fly Fishing

Here are some tips on equipment to bring from one of our excellent guides, Tyson Fick:

Fly gear....Rod and Line : "An 8wt rod is ideal for silvers, a bit much for rainbows where a 6wt is ideal...floating line with an assortment of sinking line tips is really nice for the varying depths and speeds of water in the different holes we fish. We can get it done with lead however it will not cast as well as the weighted line."

Flies..."anything bright, some weighted, some not, often I have good success on impromptu flies with no name ... good colors include hot pink, chartreuse, chrome, orange, purple and black. Size 2 streamers work really nice most of the time. specific patterns that work really well here are purple egg sucking leaches, black leaches, flash flies, spankers, cop cars, zonkers, polar shrimp ... don't forget to bring a pollywog or two, nothing is better than catching them on the surface when that is working well. For Rainbows bring egg patterns, leaches, sculpins, and some large elk hair caddis flies in case the grayling bite is on the surface,"
